This transmission line relocation project was the relocation of a 132 kV power line located on the Broadmeadows Mine. The power line needed relocating so that the Broadmeadows South project could continue.
The Broadmeadows mine is on the land of the Barada Barna people. It is 25km south of the Burton Mining Complex, which is roughly 185 km west of Mackay. The mine is one of the five metallurgical coal mines in the Bowen Basin and part of BMA, which is a joint venture between BHP and Mitsubishi development.
The relocation of the power line provided access to additional coal in the mine and extended the mine life of the pit.

Why do you need to relocate infrastructure for mining projects?
Mining organisations often need to relocate infrastructure so mining operations can continue. This is usually for a variety of reasons.
Sometimes infrastructure is relocated to reduce environmental impacts or to meet compliance requirements.
At other times infrastructure is moved for better access to resources, operational efficiency and to reduce the impact of mining on local communities.
Our involvement with the transmission line relocation
Arche Energy’s Director of Studies, George Mellick, provided ongoing project management, managed preliminary work with Powerlink, and provided commercial and contract management.
Other highlights of Arche’s involvement include:
- management of technical and environmental relocation studies
- management of the negotiation of the reconnection agreement with Powerlink
- development of the execution plan.
Arche Energy specialises in making energy projects more efficient. Whether it’s the relocation of infrastructure, an energy audit or a power supply study our team of experts can help. Read more of our blog publications here.
