Cape Byron Power operates two 30MW biomass-fired power stations on the New South Wales north coast, forming one of Australia’s largest renewable baseload power generation portfolios. The project generates electricity from biomass fuels, including sugar cane milling waste (bagasse), wood residues, and energy crops to supply renewable energy to the National Electricity Market (NEM).
As a leading biomass power generator, Cape Byron Power combines sustainable energy production with innovation, operational excellence and responsible fuel sourcing. Building on this approach, the company explored the integration of a data centre with biomass generation assets.
The project also highlights the potential for non-traditional energy sources to support energy-intensive digital infrastructure, combining reliable renewable power generation with data centre operations in a single integrated development.
Arche’s contribution
Arche Energy also provided Owner’s Engineer, project management and technical advisory services for the installation of a data centre/bitcoin miner connected to the Cape Byron Power biomass plant.
