Our team provided network connection management for the reopening of the Burton Downs Metallurgical Coal Mine in Burton, Queensland.
In 2023 Burton Mine Complex officially reopened the coal mine and restarted operations after focussing on the electrical restoration of the site which had been dormant since 2016.
The Queensland Government expects the mine to produce up to 4.5 million tonnes of predominately steelmaking coal every year when it is operating at full capacity.
It was the first mine in the Bowen Basin to use a terrace mining truck and shovel method of open pit mining, which involves the use of shovels and excavators to remove materials. Haul trucks remove the resource.

Our involvement with network connection management
Arche contributed our technical-commercial expertise to strategically manage the network connection process for the reconnection of the mine to Powerlink and Ergon networks.
Powerlink’s network extends 1,700km from Cairns to the New South Wales border and Ergon’s network includes 154,000km of overhead powerlines and underground cables.
Arche supports clients to achieve their network connections goals. Read more about our network connection services here.
