Arche Energy recently had the opportunity to work with the City of Moreton Bay to assess its energy use and help develop options for reducing it.
Opportunities for energy reduction vary depending on location, industry, and context of the energy user, so each one has to be assessed individually.

Emissions reduction primarily focuses on reducing the emission of greenhouse gases (GHGs) — carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxides (NOX), and fluorinated gases.
We look at sources of emissions like transport, manufacturing, agriculture, and waste management.
One of the biggest contributors to GHGs is carbon emissions from energy production, which means that reducing emissions and saving energy (and money) are directly linked.
Case study: City of Moreton Bay
In early 2024, we worked with the City of Moreton Bay to assess Council’s energy use and develop options for the future.
We prepared technical-economic advice to help Council to determine the best strategies to meet their goal of net zero emissions by 2039.
“Arche Energy worked closely with the team to meet the brief and delivered the project within a tight deadline. Energy reduction options are key considerations in our path to net zero,” City of Moreton Bay Coordinator Sustainability Planning Emma-Jayne Leckie said.
Arche Energy’s George Mellick and Abel Quintero assessed Council’s existing energy use — electricity supply agreements, metered sites, consumption, and emissions inventory.
Based on this assessment, George and Abel formulated options to reduce Council’s energy use and greenhouse emissions.
“Local governments, especially the large ones we have here in Queensland, have immense potential to lead by example in the push towards net zero,” said Arche’s Director of Studies George Mellick.
“Actions like retrofitting their buildings and other assets with energy-efficient technologies and installing solar panels on schools, libraries, and offices can have real impact.”
They looked into contract options, types of energy, and facilitating increased use of renewable energy, along with improved energy management, enabling progress towards achieving Council’s net zero corporate emissions target.
